Slidell Woman Dies After Head-On Collision With Train

Slidell police say a 53-year-old woman died after turning onto railroad tracks and running head-on into a freight train.

Police say in a news release that Jamii Pizzitolo of Slidell had to be extricated from her car. She was flown late Friday to the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans, where she died.

Police believe impairment may have contributed to the accident.

About an hour before the crash, someone called 911 to report a possible drunk driver in a gold Oldsmobile Alero. Police looked for the car but could not find it.

Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident in New Orleans

Police say a 47-year-old New Orleans man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding struck an oak tree.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the man's identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

Officer Frank Robertson tells The Times-Picayune the victim was traveling northbound on Elysian Fields when he clipped a white SUV parked on the shoulder of the road.

Contractor dies cleaning Plaquemines debris

A 50-year-old contractor from Mississippi died in Plaquemines Parish after the bulldozer he was working in slipped into a debris covered pond.

Parish officials say the man from Wiggins was pronounced dead at a local hospital Tuesday. WWL-TV reports the accident happened just off La. Highway 23 near Point Celeste.

The victim's name has not been released.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Two injured in Bay St. Louis truck-train collision

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — Two people have been hurt after their truck collided with an eastbound CSX train.

The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of City Park Avenue and Toulme Street in Bay St. Louis.

Deputy Chief Christine Johnson told The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/NoWdUO) that Kenneth and Deborah Kennedy, both 52, from Waveland, were apparently going over the track and possibly tried to back up to get off the tracks when the accident happened.

Investigators Checking What Caused I-10 Pileup

Two people were killed and more than 60 injured in a pre-dawn multi-vehicle pileup in New Orleans East that shut down a busy stretch of the I-10 for most of the day. Drivers say heavy fog covered the area.

Louisiana officials are investigating what triggered the 40-car pile-up that closed Interstate 10 and left dozens critically injured. A responding tow truck driver says he heard screams from people pleading for help.
