Long Snappers: Looking at Football Upside Down

They make a living looking upside down between their legs.

The only time they get noticed is when they mess up.

Such is life for a long snapper.

In Sunday's Super Bowl, Brian Jennings of the 49ers and Morgan Cox of the Ravens will be the guys doing the snapping for punts, field goals and extra points. They have the same goal: stay completely anonymous.

Crabtree Caps Career Year with Super Bowl Berth

Michael Crabtree refused to remove the black 49ers beanie and reveal his hair. Nope, not going to do it.

Crabtree is trying to maintain every possible element of surprise he might still have left heading into his first Super Bowl — and will certainly take any advantage he can get this week.

Lewis Says He's 'Agitated,' Not Angry About Story

Smiling, even laughing, at questions about a report linking him to a company that purports to make performance-enhancers, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis says he "never, ever took" the stuff.

Lewis also says he's "agitated," not angry, that the story has become part of the Super Bowl-week prelude to Baltimore's game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Jamaica Embraces Controversial Super Bowl Ad

The predominantly black country of Jamaica is embracing a controversial Super Bowl commercial that depicts a white office worker from the U.S. Midwest feigning the Caribbean island's lilting patois accent to display a cheerful, upbeat outlook.

Some U.S. critics have described the pregame Super Bowl ad from Volkswagen of America as offensive and culturally insensitive. But the charged reaction has met with puzzlement in Jamaica, which has very visible white, Asian, Middle Eastern and mixed-race minorities that also often speak with the local accent.

Quotes from the Baltimore Ravens Media Session: Safety Ed Reed

Baltimore Ravens Safety Ed Reed

On the impact that Doug Williams had on him as a fellow Louisiana native:

“Just watching him, how he played the game with such passion. It just means a lot for what he’s done for guys opening doors as a quarterback. That’s awesome.”

On if he appreciates his first Super Bowl appearance more with it coming later in his career:

Super Bowl Memories: SB XX

Super Bowl XX played out exactly how everyone expected. The Chicago Bears crushed the New England Patriots 46-10.

The Bears, coached by Hall of Famer Mike Ditka (who won Super Bowl VI in New Orleans as a player), finished the season with a 15-1 record and dominated almost every opponent they faced during the 1985 season, while the Patriots earned a wild card playoff berth and went on an improbable playoff run to reach the Big Game.

Super Bowl Attracts Battle Of Craft Breweries

Transcript

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

Sunday's Super Bowl - a contest between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers - is also a battle of craft breweries. Maryland's Flying Dog Brewery made a bet with Anchor Brewing of San Francisco. The loser must pour the winner's beer in its taproom for a week. And the loser's brewery tour guides will have to wear the winner's Super Bowl championship gear. Could be tough, but if they need a beer after all that, they're all set.

There's always a question surrounding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Years ago, people wondered whether the talented athlete would be good enough to start in college.

Then there was the question of what role he would play in the NFL. And after the 49ers took him, fans questioned whether he could throw enough to be more than a backup.

Super Bowl Memories: SB XV

The Oakland Raiders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in Super Bowl XV, New Orleans’ fifth Super Bowl and the second in the Louisiana Superdome.

This was the first Super Bowl appearance for the high-flying Eagles and the third for the plucky wild card Raiders.

Led by quarterback and Super Bowl XV Most Valuable Player Jim Plunkett, the Raiders unleashed an unrelenting offensive assault on the Eagles defense.

Plunkett accumulated 261 yards passing and threw for three touchdowns including an 80-yard bomb to running back Kenny King in the first quarter.
