The opening of Baton Rouge's new $368 million casino has been delayed because of Tropical Storm Isaac.
L'Auberge Baton Rouge was scheduled to open Wednesday, but Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. announced Monday that it was postponing the grand opening. No rescheduled date was immediately announced.
Pinnacle says the storm has scrapped plans to do a mock cruise and diverted Louisiana State Police employees needed for the final inspection and for issuance of the final regulatory approval to open the casino.
South Florida airports were returning to normal operations Monday morning but airlines are already warning of cancelations in and around New Orleans as Tropical Storm Isaac nears.
Airlines canceled more than 230 flights on Monday, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware. The vast majority of cancelations stemmed from the storm, which is expected to grow to a Category 1 hurricane and hit land late Tuesday night.
Given the projected path and strength of Tropical Storm Isaac, the University of New Orleans will cancel all classes beginning at noon today, and all non-essential personnel are released at this time.
Campus will officially close at 4:30 p.m. today and will remain closed at least Tuesday and Wednesday. Please continue to monitor your e-mail, the UNO website, social media and local news media reports for updates on when UNO will reopen campus and resume classes.
