WWNO 89.9 FM has hired New Orleans radio personality Janae Pierre as the station’s new local host of the NPR weekday afternoon news program, All Things Considered. In this role, Ms. Pierre oversees the program’s local broadcast, coordinating its NPR elements with local weather, traffic, underwriting announcements, newscasts and news features.

Janae will also host WWNO’s weekly news and culture program, All Things New Orleans. She takes over both programs following the semi-retirement this summer of longtime host Jack Hopke, who continues with the station as host of Saturday Night Jazz and classical music programmer.

In announcing the appointment, WWNO General Manager Paul Maassen said, “The All Things Considered host is one of the most important jobs at New Orleans Public Radio. As host, Janae Pierre will become the familiar afternoon radio voice for one of New Orleans’ largest radio audiences.”

News Director Eve Troeh added, “Janae was a standout choice for WWNO because of her truly sparkling personality and deep interest and knowledge of New Orleans. She also carries a true love for radio. She understands the vital role of a radio host--to be a voice of the city, a daily presence that lets listeners feel connected and guided through their day.”

Pierre is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She has worked and volunteered with several different media organizations, notably the New Orleans Tribune and local radio station WBOK 1230 AM, where she began as a college intern. For the last five years she has been a popular WBOK drive-time on-air host and community events director. She is the recipient of the 2015 Sophie Aramburo Servant/Leader Award, and was named Producer of the Year by eXposed Magazine in 2014.

WWNO 89.9FM, New Orleans Public Radio, is the listener-supported NPR radio station serving New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana on 89.9 FM and on KTLN 90.5 FM in the Houma-Thibodaux area. WWNO is a public service of the University of New Orleans. Listeners have made WWNO one of the region’s top news stations, attracted by in-depth reporting and discussions that stay respectful.
