WWNO Sweeps New Orleans Press Club Radio Awards

89.9 WWNO -- New Orleans Public Radio swept the radio categories at the 2016 Press Club of New Orleans Excellence in Journalism Awards, held this past Saturday, July 9.

WWNO took home plaques for Best Radio Story for “Last Day at Lagniappe Academies,” a unique feature by producer Mallory Falk witnessing the final day of a Recovery School District school which had lost its charter; and for “Best Radio Show” for the 13-part feature series “Katrina: The Debris,” exploring the struggles and successes of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast 10 years after Hurricane Katrina.

“WWNO is an increasingly important part of the news community here in New Orleans,” says News Director Eve Troeh. “Our public service mission uniquely positions us to provide analysis of, and context for, the important issues facing our region.”

The Press Club also honored programs “Inside the Arts” and “Louisiana Eats!” as the other Best Radio Shows in the market.

“This is a great honor and reflects the hard work and talent involved in all of our programs,” says General Manager Paul Maassen. “It again proves WWNO’s commitment to telling New Orleans stories with New Orleans voices.”
