Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge celebrates National Pollinator Week.
Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge is using the weekend to celebrate nature's pollinators. National Pollinator Week brings awareness to plants, insects and mammals that aid in pollination. Black Bayou has been hosting sessions that educates the community on its local pollinators.
Nova Clarke, Education Specialist and Refuge Ranger, says rain and seasonal patterns are responsible for the influx and decrease in pollinator activity. "It depends on what's blooming. As patternshave changed, you need different pollinators out to help with pollination." Clarke says.
Governor Bobbdy Jindal signed a declaration that recognizes Pollinator Week in the state. This is the first year that Pollinator Week is nationally recognized by all 50 states.
Activities for National Pollinator Week will be held Saturday, June 20 at Black Bayou Lake from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
