On election day, Louisiana voters said yes to protecting state funding for healthcare, and a firm no to measures that would expand the size and reach of state government.

The first two amendments were approved, locking in funds for nursing homes and hospitals.

Voters also said yes to protecting the Artificial Reef Development fund. All three will now be added to the list of funds that cannot be swept to balance the state budget.

Other amendments will allow for property tax exemptions for certain disabled veterans and shorten the period of time before a parish can sell off abandoned or blighted property.

Voters left 8 amendments in the dust last night, including a proposal to allow local governments the option to use an authorized private firm to assist in the collection of delinquent property taxes.
