The University of Louisiana at Monroe has opened an asbestos testing lab on campus. ULMPresident Dr. Nick Bruno says the Asbestos Analysis Lab can improve environmental concerns through specialized testing.
Lab Director JohnHerrocksays the service will benefit a number of projects. "We'll do samples for homeowners, and for business, and environmental consultants. Those who need analysis of building materials," saidHerrock.
The creation of the lab was assisted by a donation from Mr. Dean Blackett. ULM Toxicology Department Head Dr. Kevin Baer says Blackett's support will impact student growth in learning about testing and analysis. "Not only is it going to be a resource for the community, it is also going to be a training center for our students," he said.
The lab is unique to the area. The nearest facility of its kind is located in Baton Rouge. Herrock says inquiries about services of the ULM lab can be found on the ulm.edu website.
