Trumpeter Shamarr Allen was arrested for allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy moments before he was scheduled to perform Thursday night at the Jazz in the Park concert series at Armstrong Park.
News accounts report Allen was with family members who weren’t allowed backstage without proper credentials.
Authorities say Allen hit the New Orleans Parish Sheriff’s deputy, and was arrested. Allen’s mother was reportedly knocked to the ground.
In July, Allen was arrested by state troopers after a traffic stop in the Lower 9th Ward. Allen says he was roughed up during that arrest. Officials say an internal affairs investigation found the allegation was unwarranted.
