Trial Begins for 2 NOPD Officers for Post-Katrina Convention Center Shooting
By Eileen Fleming
New Orleans, LA – The two officers are accused of perjury and obstruction of justice in the death of Danny Brumfield. The officers have said Brumfield lunged at them armed with a pair of scissors as they drove past crowds at the Convention Center. Prosecutors say the officers lied during testimony in a civil lawsuit filed by the victim's family, which resulted in a $400-thousand-dollar settlement. The officers are not charged with the shooting itself, but face 20 years in prison if convicted of giving false testimony. The federal trial is expected to last about a week.
