State officials ready for peak of hurricane season
State officials say they are ready for whatever the weather might throw at them this hurricane season.
Kevin Davis, director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said Wednesday the state is standing by should a storm threaten Louisiana. He added that he encourages citizens to review their own emergency game plans, before severe weather strikes.
Representatives from the state police, the National Guard and the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say they are also on standby. Gen. Glenn H. Curtis said the Louisiana National Guard's mission is "one team, one fight."
Hurricane season starts in the beginning of June and runs through the end of November, but August and September have traditionally been the most active parts of the season.
