St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta has been indicted for stalking his ex-wife.
The New Orleans Advocate is reporting a St. Tammany Parish grand jury handed down a single felony count.
Bail is set at $35,000. He’s expected to turn himself in to authorities on Monday.
The indictment was based on testimony of his ex-wife, Sharon Schaefer, along with evidence investigators took from Peralta’s home and office in July.
He had been ordered to have no contact with Schaefer. But she produced 17 pages of emails she says made her frightened.
Peralta has — so far — resisted calls to resign over previous criminal court proceedings involving Schaefer.
