Pop Culture Happy Hour: 'Iron Man' And Giving Up

Listen to Pop Culture Happy Hour

On this week's show, we're joined by our friend Matt Thompson, who was around last summer for The Avengers and who here helps us tackle Iron Man 3.We chat about the importance of the suit, the quality of the villainy, and whether Robert Downey, Jr. should win an Oscar. (Okay, the last one is me.)

After that, we chat about the things that we've given up on, some of which might surprise you. (I am ready for your angry e-mails.)

As always, we close the show with what's making us happy this week. Stephen is happy about a performance that he rediscovered as part of helping me with a piece I wrote this week. Matt is happy about a video to which he can't help dancing. Glen is happy about a podcast that gives him nothing but happiness and gave him, believe it or not, his "jock jam." (Really.) I manage to be happy about a bunch of things this week, including a new IFC show, a couple of great moviegoing experiences, and the great disdain of Harry Connick, Jr.

Find us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter: me, Stephen, Glen, Matt, Trey, Jess, and our esteemed producer emeritus and music director, Mike Katzif.

Linda Holmes is a pop culture correspondent for NPR and the host of Pop Culture Happy Hour. She began her professional life as an attorney. In time, however, her affection for writing, popular culture, and the online universe eclipsed her legal ambitions. She shoved her law degree in the back of the closet, gave its living room space to DVD sets of The Wire, and never looked back.
