Police Chief Says Parade Shooting Suspect Confesses

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison says the suspect in last night’s shooting at the Muses parade has confessed.

Superintendent Harrison says 19-year-old suspect john Hicks of New Orleans is now facing charges in the killing of two men – one 21 and the other 22 years old.

“Hicks was booked with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during a violent crime at a parade," Harrison said. "And he also confessed to his actions and we found gunpowder residue on his hands, confirming that he had fired a weapon that night.”

Harrison says the shooting at the 1300 block of St. Charles Avenue occurred about 10 p.m.  He says there have been problems in the past at that location, and cameras provided by Homeland Security were in place.

He says Hicks was quickly apprehended by police stationed in the area.  Harrison says it appears Hicks had been with a group of friends who got in a fight with another group just before the shooting.
