More than 300 people representing nonprofit organizations in central Louisiana have gathered in downtown Alexandria to show support for area nonprofits. The seven-hour Celebration of Philanthropy features speakers on gift making and board leadership. Tom Harmeyer, executive director of the Central Louisiana Community Foundation, said it’s important to keep Cenla’s philanthropists investing their dollars into local nonprofits.

"We are trying to make sure people are aware of how worthwhile our local organizations are, and how important it is that we support them,” Harmeyer said.

A nonprofit fair is showcasing about 30 local organizations and their missions. Harmeyer said sometimes the work of these agencies flies under the radar. The fourth annual event is being held April 16 at the Diamond Grill and Alexandria City Hall.
