Oyster Board Brainstorms To Rebound From Oil Spill
By Eileen Fleming
New Orleans, La. – The oyster advisory committee is urging Governor Bobby Jindal to push for reinforcing sand berm projects installed over the summer to block oil from the coast. It says the barriers could be fortified for coastal restoration. The panel met at the University of New Orleans with Garret Graves, who's Jindal's top coastal adviser and chairman of the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. The 15-member panel of oyster fishermen and processors also includes representatives of state agencies. They're trying to come up with plans to ride out the lean production years ahead. Mike Voisin (whah-ZHAN) of Motivatit Seafood of Houma says BP has so far committed to fund the industry through the crisis.
