New Orleans, La. – The commission is investigating what led to the rig explosion that killed 11 men April 20th, how effective the response has been and what can be done to prevent another disaster. The co-chairmen are former Democratic Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham and former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator William Reilly. He was in charge during the administration of the first President Bush, and responded to the 1989 Exxon Valdez tanker disaster. Both men are spending the weekend on the Gulf Coast talking with people affected by the spill. Next week, they'll hear more public statements as well as from officials dealing with the BP spill. People signing up to speak will be allowed three minutes on a first-come, first-serve basis. The commission has six months to make its reports to the president.
