Sally Reeves, archivist for the Notarial Archives Division of the Orleans Clerk for Civil District Court.

The New Orleans City Council declared October as Notarial Archives Month. New Orleans has one of the richest land records archives in the country.

Sally Reeves is the archivist at the Notarial Archives. She manages the city’s collection that ranges from marriage records to architectural renderings that date back to the early 18th century. People access these original documents for legal, historical and genealogical research.

Here, Reeves talks about her time spent with this repository, starting with what it means to be the archivist for the Civil District Court.
