New Orleans Pelicans Headed To Playoffs For First Time Since 2011

The New Orleans Pelicans beat the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night in front of a sold out crowd in the Smoothie King Center, and are headed to the playoffs.

It’s been a rollercoaster year for the New Orleans Pelicans. The young team struggled with injuries and inconsistent play over a grueling 82-game regular season.

The Pelicans needed every one of those games. They were locked in a neck-and-neck struggle with the Oklahoma City Thunder. But now, for the first time since 2011, they are in the playoffs.

Superstar power forward Anthony Davis:

“I’m just proud of these guys, proud of our coaching staff. We’ve been through adversity all year and we made it — made the playoffs, reached our goal — but we know it’s not over. We’ve got to go to Golden State and play a tough Golden State team.”

That Golden State Warriors team ended the regular season with the best record in the league. The Pelicans will face them in a best-of-seven series. The first game is this Saturday afternoon in Oakland.
