Republican Congressman Vance McAllister may be having second thoughts about keeping his job.
He’s holding what his staff is calling a “special press conference” later this morning in Monroe. McAllister was in his eighth month in office when he was caught on video kissing a staff member.
He announced that he would not seek re-election.
McAllister was serving the final year of the two-year congressional term of Rodney Alexander, who abruptly announced his resignation in August 2013.
Republicans, including Governor Bobby Jindal, called on McAllister to resign.
About two weeks ago, he told reporters in Washington that a recent poll shows he could win re-election.
His news conference is set for 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall in Monroe.
