New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says he’s optimistic that the city will be able to handle the anticipated fallout from Tropical Storm Isaac. Isaac is on track to be at hurricane-strength when it makes landfall, and city officials say they’re ready for what’s predicted.
Mayor Landrieu says his administration is prepared for the coming storm.
“I believe that everything is going to be okay. That does not mean that you can let your guard down. It doesn’t mean that you can’t do everything that you had planned to do. It means that you execute the plans that you have been working on for a very, very long time.”
The mayor says rain is expected to start sometime tomorrow, with the height of the storm coming late Tuesday or early Wednesday. He says residents aren’t being told to evacuate — but to prepare to take shelter in their homes that are stocked with emergency supplies.
