New Orleans, La. – Mayor Nagin had planned to stay four days in the city to attend an international business conference and promote New Orleans's ability to handle increased trade from the expanding Panama Canal. Critics have wondered if Nagin's international travel has benefited the city.
He was asked recently if - given the current budget deficit and expected cutbacks - if it was a good time to leave.
Nagin left yesterday and is expected to address the business conference today before returning tonight.
