A new do-it-yourself makerspace, workshop, and design studio, IDIYA, had its grand opening Thursday in Broadmoor.
The “DIY” in the name is for “do-it-yourself.” For a monthy membership fee, makers, innovators, and crafters gain access to all of the tools in the Idiya building.
Jim McKenna is the operations manager at Idiya. He gives an overview of some of the tools available for members to use:
“We have a 3500 square foot space,” McKenna says. “We have a wood shop, a metal shop, a CNC shop, a sewing station and electronics station, a CNC vinyl cutter, a 3D printing room with eight 3D printers, and a CNC laser cutting room.”
McKenna says membership in Idiya works similar to a monthly gym membership.
“We’re looking for students, makers, inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, and anyone who has had that desire to make something but perhaps hasn’t had the know-how or equipment to bring it all together,” McKenna says.
IDIYA has a booth at this year’s New Orleans Entrepreneur Week.
