The Louisiana chapter of the NAACP has written a letter to Governor Bobby Jindal asking that the option of license plates featuring a Confederate flag be removed from the Office of Motor Vehicles.

According to OMV, there are currently 160 of the "Sons Of Confederate Veterans" license plates that have been issued.  The plates were produced at the request of a State Capitol employee in 1999.

La. NAACP President Ernest Johnson says there is a moral revolution taking place over the flag.  "We're asking Jindal to do the right thing and to officially discontinue having state-sponsored displays of rebel flags in any form," he said.

Johnson says the flag is a symbol best regulated to individual use and should not be sponsored by the state.  Governor Jindal, in a statement, says it's possible the legislature will look at the issue next time they are in session.  But the bottom line is that states need to decide these issues.
