Women executives gathered at the Zurich PGA Classic on Monday — not for a round of golf, but for a panel discussion on how to succeed in business. Two had some advice for making sure women get paid as much as their male colleagues.
The National Women’s Law Center in Washington, D.C., ranks Louisiana as having the largest wage gap for women in the country. It says women are paid 66 cents for every dollar earned by men.
Between panel discussions this afternoon at the opening of the Zurich Classic in Avondale, two leading executives were asked how to close that gap.
Donna Fiedorowicz is a senior vice president with the PGA Tour, in charge of outreach. She organized Executive Women’s Day. Her advice:
“Pick a company that has the culture that you believe in. If it does, ‘It’s naturally going to be one that is going to be very supportive of you., which will probably put you in a bracket other than the one you currently are.”
Dalynn Hoch is the chief financial officer of Zurich North America. She’s one of five women on an executive team of 13. She says companies can close the gap with a market compensation study.
“They should be blind to gender or any forms of diversity,” Hoch said.
Both said applicants should also do their own research to get a handle on the company’s culture.
