Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu is now facing tougher odds of re-election next month, in light of the failure of Congress to pass the Keystone XL pipeline through Congress.
After narrowly leading on Election Day, the Democrat had pinned her hopes for re-election on leading the approval process for the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline during the lame-duck Congress.
It was to serve as a ready-made example of her clout for voters in a state with a robust oil and gas industry.
But it failed by one vote.
Incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is promising the new Republican majority will quickly resurrect the Keystonelegislation.
