Isaac stalling elected officials' GOP travel plans

Louisiana's Republican elected officials are scrapping or delaying Florida travel plans for the GOP's national convention. Some who had arrived in Tampa quickly turned around and headed home to wait for Tropical Storm Isaac.

Gov. Bobby Jindal hasn't officially canceled his plans to speak at the convention, but says he won't leave Louisiana "as long as we're in harm's way."

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain and Secretary of State Tom Schedler made it to Tampa, but are returning to Louisiana Monday, according to their offices. U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, who represents much of suburban New Orleans, was in Florida but weighing whether to return home.

In neighboring Mississippi, Gov. Phil Bryant has delayed his travel, according to his spokesman, Mick Bullock. Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney canceled his convention travel.
