The New Orleans Pelicans closed out the season Wednesday night with a 105-100 win over the the playoff-bound Houston Rockets in front of a raucous home crowd.
The end of the season couldn’t have come soon enough.
This inaugural season of the rebranded New Orleans Pelicans will be remembered — but more for the team’s many hiccups than the very real successes of New Orleans’ here-to-stay NBA franchise.
For every Smoothie King naming-rights deal and All-Star Game selection there was yet another season-ending injury. Or a Pierre the Pelican.
There’s a lot to be excited about, however. Anthony Davis is an honest-to-goodness All-Star. And he’s only getting better. Look for big moves in the offseason to surround him with appropriately high-calibre firepower.
Tom Benson is a dedicated local owner. The team’s front office is unafraid to make big moves… Even if they don’t always pan out. And there’s a lot of recuperating talent already here, ready to hit the court.
But for now, the 34-win, 48-loss 2013-14 season is in the books. Time for golf… and football.
