Ron Howard’s racing film “Rush” opens nationwide this week. It’s one of many films opening in the next few months that will vie for Oscar nominations.

As Boston Globe film critic Ty Burrtells Here & Now, “we are in the fall serious season as opposed to the summer silly season.”
