New Orleans, LA – U-S Attorney Jim Letten says several agencies using wiretaps and undercover investigators seized more than two pounds of heroin. Investigators say the drugs came through Mexico bound for New Orleans, the West Bank and Slidell. And, he says, the heroin is stronger than drugs seized in the past.
"We saw in the 90s and, really, the last - probably - decade or so - resurgence, a big resurgence, and a scary resurgence of heroin use here."
Letten says that more important than the quantity of heroin recovered is the disruption to the distribution system. Thirteen men are in custody. Two of the suspects are from Houston, the rest are from Louisiana. The three still at large are from New Orleans.
