'The Great Invisible' Returns To The Prytania

RADiUS-TWC

"The Great Invisible" is a new documentary about the 2010 BP Oil Spill opening on December 12 at the Prytania Theater. Margaret Brown, the movie's director, grew up on the Alabama coast and saw the impact the spill had on her family and neighbors.

But, as Brown continued to pay attention, she realized this was not just a story about the victims, and that the oil executives were not the only enemies.

Brown says most people that criticize BP are still going to the gas station to fill up their cars.

"The problem is us," she says. "Yeah, they’re making money off of us and our addiction, but we have to look at our addiction closely for anything to change, and that's what the film attempts to do. People go in thinking it's going to be this political screed and they come out with, hopefully, a deeper understanding of how we’re all connected to this factory under the gulf of Mexico."

"The Great Invisible" runs at the Prytania Theatre until December 18. Director Margaret Brown will attend the screening on Tuesday, Dec. 16 for a Q+A following the film.
