Get Help With FEMA Elevation Grants in St. Tammany Parish

St. Tammany Parish is hosting two meetings this week to help flooded homeowners with paperwork for home elevation funds granted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The first meeting is 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in Mandeville, at the St. Tammany Parish Council Chambers, 21490 Koop Drive.

The second meeting is 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Slidell, on the fifth floor of the Towers Administration Building, 520 Old Spanish Trail.

After flood damage occurs, FEMA makes grant money available for home elevation, but the process can be cumbersome.

The parish recommends bringing the following documents to the meeting to make the process easier:

  1. A copy of your driver’s license or state-issued photo ID.
  2. A copy of your flood insurance declaration, and if possible
  3. An appraisal of the property.

Generally, FEMA covers about 75% of home elevation costs, and the homeowner pays the rest.
