Former New Orleans Cops Not Getting Sentence Reductions
By Eileen Fleming
New Orleans, LA – The Justice Department had recommended that Michael Hunter's eight-year sentence be cut to five. But the judge says the former officer has already been rewarded for his cooperation. He drove a rental truck carrying officers responding to a call of police under attack at the Danziger Bridge. Two men were killed and four wounded when officers opened fire at the unarmed civilians. Another officer who cooperated with investigators in the civil rights case was sentenced to more than six years, two more than prosecutors requested.
