Five Killed In New Orleans House Fire

Two adults and three children have been killed in a house fire in New Orleans.

Firefighters are investigating what caused the fire in the two-story Broadmoor home — in the 4300 block of South Miro Street.

Fire Chief Timothy McConnell says the fire was reported around 12:15 this morning.

An elderly woman, her daughter and her three grandchildren were killed. He says the children's father escaped uninjured.

McConnell said the father, who was the mother's boyfriend, attempted to rescue his family, but could not re-enter the burning home. He said the father told him the home had no working smoke detectors.

McConnell said the three children attended Andrew H. Wilson Charter School across the street from their home.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting in the investigation.
