New Orleans, La. – The idea is for Landrieu to move forward quickly when he's inaugurated May 3rd. He's been meeting with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Lisa Jackson, head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Donovan pledged a stronger commitment for the recovery.
Landrieu said the city needs improvements in housing and education to improve public safety. He said the weekend shooting on Canal Street that left seven people injured demonstrates why crime prevention is essential for recovery.
Landrieu is expected to release results of his task force reviews of more than a dozen topics later this month.
