Ex-Rep. Bob Livingston donates papers to Tulane

Former U.S. Rep. Bob Livingston, who spent 22 years in Congress, has donated his congressional papers to the Louisiana Research Collection at Tulane University, his alma mater.

Livingston was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1977 from Louisiana's 1st Congressional District. For most of his 11 terms in office, he was a member of the Appropriations Committee, serving as chairman from 1995 through 1998. He had been in line to become speaker of the House until he resigned after admitting to an extramarital affair at the height of the debate over the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Livingston is currently working as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

Tulane officials say it will take about a year to catalog the papers before they'll be available for public view.
