Singer-songwriter Elizabeth Cook makes her third appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. Cook's first appearance on the show took place nearly 10 years ago, and since then her star has risen slowly and steadily.

Her Rodney Crowell-produced 2007 album Balls includes the anthem "Sometimes It Takes Balls to Be a Woman," and her most recent, Welder, features unflinching cuts like "Heroin Addict Sister" and "Yes to Booty." Cook's effervescent stage presence made her a natural choice to host the popular Apron Strings on Sirius XM's Outlaw Country channel, which led to a hilarious interview appearance on Late Night With David Letterman last summer.

Her Mountain Stage set includes songs from her EP Gospel Plow, along with a few others like "El Camino" — a sing-song vignette about a car that creeps her out. "Not in a gangsta kind of way," she sings, "but in a perv kind of way."

This Mountain Stage performance was originally aired on September 18, 2012.
