Cops: Dad used girl, 5, as shield from mom's knife

Kenner police say a 5-year-old girl's back was gashed and both of her ankles cut when her father used her as a shield from her mother's knife attack. According to the arrest report, the wound in her back needed 22 staples, and her ankles needed a total of 11 stitches — seven in the left and four in the right.

The Times-Picayune reports 25-year-old Kenisha Caples and 44-year-old Maurice Sparkman were arrested Sunday, a day after their fight.

Arrest records show that Caples was booked with two counts of aggravated battery and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, and Sparkman with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and domestic abuse battery.
