Close, But No Cigar: LSU Tigers And New Orleans Saints Both Lose In Overtime

The Superdome was almost impossibly loud on Sunday with the sound of 73,129 football fans screaming their hearts out.

That is, when the crowd wasn’t being drowned out by a ear-splitting siren sound piped through the Dome PA system.

The Saints lost the game to the San Francisco 49ers, 27-24. The Saints went down 14-0 early, climbed back to take the lead, and then let San Francisco tie it up with 44 seconds left in regulation.

A Hail Mary touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham as time expired was nullified by an offensive pass interference call. The 49ers recovered a third Drew Brees turnover in OT and won it with a field goal.

It was the second overtime thriller in as many days. LSU lost to Alabama on Saturday, 20-13.

Winners this weekend: Southern University, UL-Lafayette, Tulane, Louisiana Tech — and the Pelicans, thanks to Anthony Davis.
