City Cracking Down On Illegal Vendors Around Superdome

The City of New Orleans issued a reminder to vendors in the vicinity of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome today, saying that the city's Department of Finance and the New Orleans Police Department will be strictly enforcing vending ordinances during Saints home games.

Vendors who have not obtained permits to sell items such as clothing, bottled water, alcoholic beverages or other merchandise will be issued summonses and have to appear in Municipal Court. The city says the crackdown is intended to protect business owners who have valid vending licenses.

Additionally, the city is reminding vendors that certain activities are strictly prohibited, including the sale of alcoholic beverages on city streets and public right-of-ways; sales not made from a fixed place of business; and clothing and merchandise sales on sidewalks and public right-of-ways.

The strict enforcement of the vending laws will continue throughout the 2013-14 Saints football season. Individuals looking for information on permits can contact the city's Bureau of Revenue at (504) 658-1637 or revenue@nola.gov.
