Bring Your Own is a nomadic storytelling series that takes place in living rooms, backyards and other intimate spaces within the community. Each month, seven storytellers have 7 minutes to respond to a theme. BYO airs on All Things New Orleans and is a biweekly podcast on WWNO.org.

This story was told at the Old Firehouse on Mandeville Street on April 24, 2013, and later produced by Jesse Chanin. The theme of the evening was “Jackpot”. Here, Laine Kaplan-Levenson shows us that sometimes dodging a bullet can feel a lot like winning that pot.

Bring Your Own is brought to you by Laine Kaplan-Levenson and Nina Feldman. The next BYO will be Thursday, July 31. For more information go to Bringyourownstories.com.
