The New Orleans Pelicans kicked off the NBA season with a 101-84 win over the visiting Orlando Magic.
Anthony Davis is an honest-to-goodness superstar. And he is only getting better.
Davis, now in his third year, wowed the Smoothie King Center crowd Tuesday night with another masterful performance. He was just shy of a rare triple-double — that’s double-digits in three separate categories: 26 points, 17 rebounds and 9 blocked shots. He’s the first player to record those numbers in any NBA game since Dwight Howard in 2008.
Davis had some help: Omer Asik had a double-double of his own, and Ryan Anderson notched 22 points.
The Pelicans, still a young team and with many new faces, still have a lot to work on, including some really poor free-throw shooting, but there are 81 more games to figure it out.
The next game is this Saturday at home versus the Dallas Mavericks.
