Discount airline Allegiant Air will begin nonstop service to New Orleans from four destinations beginning in early February.

Officials with Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport said Tuesday that Allegiant will have nonstop flights from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; and Florida's Orlando-Sanford International Airport.

Allegiant said in a news release on its website that the Florida flights will be scheduled year-round. The other destinations will be seasonal: Cincinnati flights from Feb. 4 through May 5; Columbus, from Feb. 5 through April 8; and Indianapolis from Feb. 5 through May 5.

Airport officials noted that the flights begin just in time for Mardi Gras travelers. Mardi Gras falls on Feb. 17 next year.
