Abraham Visits Israeli Officials In Overseas Trip

U.S. Congressman Ralph Abraham says Israeli officials have set aside political differences in opposing President Barack Obama's proposed agreement with Iran.

Abraham, currently on a visit to Israel met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Isaac Herzog to discuss the plan.  "They agree that this is a historic mistake for Israel to be under this deal," said Abraham.

Obama's proposal would lift sanctions that some fear would enable Iran to acquire resources to develop weapons.  Abraham says the possibility brings concern across Israeli leadership, including security and military personnel.  "The consensus is that this is not a deterrent to nuclear weapons, but this is actually a pathway to nuclear weapons for Iran."

Congress will take up the deal after they return to Washington in September.  They expect to pass a resolution opposing the agreement, even though  Obama has vowed a veto.  Abraham says lawmakers are discussing whether or not there is support for an override of a veto.
