The New Orleans Police Department has released traffic restrictions for the 2013 French Quarter Festival. The Festival begins this Thursday, April 11, and lasts until Sunday, April 14.
Throughout the Festival, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., North Peters/Decatur Streets will be restricted when pedestrian traffic between Iberville and Dumaine Streets necessitates the closure.
On Saturday and Sunday there will be a French Quarter closure from 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., encompassing the area between Canal to Dumaine Streets, and from Rampart Street to the river.
The NOPD says listed times for the traffic restrictions are only the earliest and latest they will take place. Vehicles will only be restricted when pedestrian traffic makes it a necessity.
For-hire vehicles, such as taxis, pedicabs and carriages, will be allowed into the restricted area as long as it is safe to do so, the police department said.
French Quarter residents, business employees, and hotel guests will also be allowed entry during the restricted times as long as it is safe. Access passes are available at the Eighth District Police Station, 334 Royal Street.
