Jason Saul is WWNO's Director of Digital Services, a multimedia journalist and a member of the station's corporate media underwriting team, dedicated to fostering partnerships with local businesses in support of their outreach efforts and WWNO’s fundraising goals.

Jason heads up WWNO's sports desk, is the point person for digital initiatives and social media outreach, and is a spot news and features reporter during major events.

Jason, a native of New York (but a long-time resident of the Crescent City), has an extensive background in traditional, digital and social media, and the intersections between them.

Grand Isle under mandatory evacuation order

Mayor David Camardelle has declared a state of emergency for the Town of Grand Isle, and has issued a mandatory evacuation order, according to a statement released by Grand Isle officials.

The statement, issued at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, was enacted due to the tropical storm watch — encompassing the entire eastern Gulf Coast — issued by the National Weather Service in advance of the approach of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Plaquemines Parish declares State of Emergency due to TS Isaac

BELLE CHASSE — Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser declared a state of emergency early Sunday morning due to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, the parish said in a press release. Parish officials say they are working with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Army Corps of Engineers, and other local leaders to prepare for the storm.

Hurricane watch now includes New Orleans area

Forecasters say a hurricane watch has been extended to include the New Orleans metro area as Tropical Storm Isaac makes its way toward the Florida Keys.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday morning that the watch area now stretches from east of Morgan City, La., to the Florida Panhandle.

Forecasters have said that Isaac could be a dangerous Category 2 hurricane by the time it makes landfall over the northern Gulf Coast. That is expected to happen sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Fla. governor declares emergency, N.O. officials urge precaution as TS Isaac approaches

MIAMI — Florida Gov. Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches the state.

Scott said the goal was to make sure every local, state and federal agency "has the exact same information" on the storm and preparations in order to make informed decisions. He issued the state of emergency Saturday during a media briefing in Broward County.

2012 Satchmo Summerfest Seminar Series Co-Produced by UNO History Professor and WWNO Radio Host

UNO history professor Connie Zeanah Atkinson and WWNO’s Fred Kasten teamed up earlier this month to help produce the 12th annual Satchmo Summerfest seminars, held Aug. 4-8 at the Old Mint, Louisiana State Museum, during the annual Satchmo Summerfest Festival. They worked together with Tulane University’s Bruce Raeburn and historian Jon Pult, as well as Marci Schramm, executive director of French Quarter Festivals, Inc.
The Treme Brass Band welcomed guests earlier this month to Satchmo Summerfest 2012 in the spirit of American jazz trumpeter and singer Louis Armstrong, who hailed from New Orleans.

NOPD to conduct Marigny DWI checkpoint tonight

The New Orleans Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Faubourg Marigny area tonight, according to a department press release.

The checkpoint, manned by the NOPD's Traffic Division, will begin at approximately 9:00 p.m. tonight, and last until about 5:00 a.m. Friday morning, said department spokesperson Hilal Williams. Motorists are advised to have proper documentation, including proof of insurance and a valid driver's license, and should experience minimal delays.

WWNO prepares audience for schedule change; shifts daytime classical music to digital channel

Starting Monday, July 23, New Orleans NPR outlet WWNO FM-89.9 will be shifting morning and afternoon classical blocks to HD channels, and airing more local and national news-and-information programming.
The news is good and bad for local lovers of classical music. The good is that there are more ways to hear their favorite (or maybe even unfamiliar) composers, orchestras, quartets, singers, soloists, etc., than at any time in history.
