MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The New Orleans Hornets are no longer on a four-game winning streak. They lost 103-91 on Wednesday night to the Memphis Grizzlies. Rookie Jerome Dyson led the Hornets with a career-high 24 points, while Carl Landry finished with 16 points. 

BARATARIA BAY, La. (AP) — Two years after the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill, scientists say they're finding trouble with sick fish that dwell along offshore reefs and in the deep waters — especially in places where the oil spill hit the hardest.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The attorney for the family of a 20-year-old unarmed man fatally shot by police says a funeral home report indicates Wendell Allen had a hole in his back, which they contend is evidence he was shot from behind.

That would contradict findings of the Orleans Parish coroner's office and New Orleans Police Department, which have both said Allen was shot in the chest.

The Times-Picayune reports ( ) Allen's family and their attorney, Lionel Lon Burns, on Wednesday accused police of a "cover-up."

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The former general manager of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad has been sentenced to two years of probation after admitting misusing the agency's money. Fifty-six-year-old James Bridger pleaded guilty last August to a federal charge that he used his agency credit card to spend more than $5,600 on meals, entertainment, alcoholic beverages and other personal expenses. 

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court is retiring. Catherine Kimball says that she will leave the court in January after serving for 20 years. Kimball's term runs until 2018. 

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Jindal administration, facing strong opposition to the sale of a central Louisiana state prison, is giving up the idea but still pushing to hire a private company to run the facility. The state would lay off employees and pay a flat fee to the company for operating the prison. 

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Saints' 2012 regular season bye comes in Week 6, meaning interim head coach Joe Vitt's six-game suspension won't end until after the Saints play at Tampa Bay in Week 7. The Saints open the regular season at home against Washington.


NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Hornets center Chris Kaman is going to miss New Orleans' final five games because of a bruised left tibia. The Hornets say the injury occurred during New Orleans' victory over Memphis on Sunday night. Kaman is averaging 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Catholic elementary school in Baton Rouge is the setting for Gov. Bobby Jindal as he signs legislation reshaping numerous aspects of public education in Louisiana, including a bill allowing the state to fund private school tuition for some students.

Wednesday's bill signing ceremony takes place at Redemptorist Elementary School.

The wide-ranging measures to be signed at the school also make major changes to teacher tenure rules, while giving more hiring and firing power to school principals and superintendents.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's mishmash system of publicly-funded prekindergarten and early childhood education programs will be coordinated and graded on a statewide scale.

The state Senate gave final passage to the measure sought by Gov. Bobby Jindal in a 39-0 vote Tuesday.
