BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is asking the Army Corps of Engineers to increase the flow of water through the Old River Control Structure into the Atchafalaya Basin. Jindal says abnormally low water levels in the basin have spawned complaints about their effects on water quality and the wild crawfish harvest. 

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded more than $148 million in additional Hurricane Katrina recovery funding to the St. Bernard Parish school board.

FEMA said the grant award announced Tuesday brings the total amount of federal funds awarded to the school board after the 2005 storm to $500 million.

St. Bernard Schools Superintendent Doris Voitier said in a statement that the money will allow the district to complete its final Katrina recovery efforts.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Louisiana House has reversed course and agreed to extend an existing tax break given to the New Orleans Hornets that saves the team $3.7 million a year.

The extension proposed by Rep. Cameron Henry, R-Metairie, was backed in a 62-37 vote Monday. The measure only got 49 votes in support last week.

The NBA team gets a tax break through the state Quality Jobs Program. Henry proposes continuing that through the 2024 season.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The House budget-writing committee is unveiling its plans Tuesday for filling a $211 million deficit this year, after working behind the scenes with the governor's office on ideas for plugging the gap.

The Appropriations Committee also is expected to rework next year's $25 billion budget proposal to account for a more than $300 million drop in projected state revenue in the new year that begins July 1.

A federal judge has been asked to postpone a sentencing hearing for the ex-wife of former Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard for her role in a payroll fraud case.

Karen Parker, who is scheduled to be sentenced July 27, pleaded guilty in January to one count of misprision of a felony, or concealing a crime.

In a court filing Monday, federal prosecutors and Parker's defense attorney asked U.S. District Judge Hayden Head to delay her sentencing until November.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will have a strong presence in Louisiana's delegation to the Republican National Convention in August, even if he has little hope of winning the GOP presidential nomination. Paul dominated the Louisiana Republican caucuses held over the weekend.

The World War II Museum, which opened June 6, 2000, expects its three millionth visitor to arrive sometime Tuesday.

The museum has been experiencing record-setting attendance. Last month, it had a total of 44,807 visitors — the most ever in a one-month period — and over 1,000 more than its previous record month in March 2010.

Based on current visitor total and visitation trends, the museum will expect the three millionth visitor around midmorning.

A presentation ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. CDT.

BATON ROUGE — The state Legislative Auditor has released a report that accuses the director and a board member of the Kenner Convention and Visitors Bureau of misusing public funds.

The charges of possible misspending, in an audit released Monday, include more than $200,000 given to the board president and his daughter, thousands of dollars in undocumented credit card spending, improper advances to an employee and Christmas bonuses the director gave himself.

A federal prosecutor argues two court-appointed defense attorneys should be sanctioned for challenging a former New Orleans police officer's convictions and death sentence without his authorization.

Len Davis, who was sentenced to death for arranging a woman's 1994 murder, has elected to represent himself during his post-conviction proceedings. In March, however, his standby counsel filed a petition asking U.S. District Judge Helen Berrigan to overturn his death sentence or order a new trial.
