UNO Chancellor Tim Ryan Dismissed

New Orleans, La. – Ryan says he was told by Louisiana State University System President John Lombardi that he was dismissed. He says he was not given a reason. Ryan has been chancellor for the past seven years, in charge of UNO through Hurricane Katrina recovery and budget shortfalls.

BP Drilling Close To Busted Well

New Orleans, La. – National Incident Commander Thad Allen says the relief well is close to punching through the outer seal of the plugged well.

"Once it's cemented the cement will have to cure and be pressure tested. That entire element from this morning I would estimate to be about 96 hours."

Bipartisan Plan Set To Retain BP Fines For Gulf Coast

New Orleans, La. – Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu stood with Republican Congressman Steve Scalise of Metairie in calling for legislation ensuring Gulf states get most of BP's fines. Landrieu has introduced legislation in the Senate. Scalise says he will introduce a similar bill in the House.
