Bach Around the Clock 2011

New Orleans, La. – Musicians and artists gear up for the 326th Anniversary of J.S Bach.
The marathon celebration, Bach Around the Clock, kicks off Friday, March 18th at 7pm and ends Saturday, March 19th at midnight. The event is free with more than 300 performers. The birthday bash takes place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue.

Loan Program Unveiled For Grocery Stores

New Orleans, La. – Mayor Landrieu says the money will provide forgivable or low-interest loans. Applicants must open, renovate or expand retail outlets that sell fresh fruit and vegetables where access is lacking, especially for low-income residents.
One of the applicants will be Dwayne Boudreaux, who's been trying to reopen Circle Food Store since it was flooded after Hurricane Katrina. The store in the former St. Bernard Market had been a community mainstay.

Irish Channel Italian Cabbage (Serves 6 - 8)

1 large head of cabbage
1 lb bacon, diced
1 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 cups Italian stuffing (see recipe to follow)

Cut the cabbage from the core, then cut into a coarse, large dice (about 3 inch square size pieces.) Rinse cabbage thoroughly in a colander and put aside.

Jesse Jackson Rallies To Block SUNO-UNO Merger

New Orleans, La. – Jackson delivered a rousing call to more than 300 SUNO students and supporters to tell the Board of Regents that they won't accept the merger. He says the majority-black institution of SUNO is critical to the community, and he says the 15-member board has only one newly appointed black member.


"An all-white Board of Regents who hired a white consultant who recommended that you shouldn't exist anymore. We must fight for justice."
